CIVIL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY (CVTY) -Ontario College Advanced Diploma (6 semesters)

Description

Cambrian College’s nationally accredited Civil Engineering program prepares graduates for the many opportunities that exist in industry right now.

Our Civil Engineering professors all have proven industry experience and offer practical, hands-on training so that our graduates have well-rounded technical and teamwork skills. The Infrastructure Opportunities Partnership (IOP) provides an opportunity for some students to gain work experience in the private, consulting, and government sectors.

Cambrian College’s Civil Engineering Technology program is focused on the design, construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation of such public infrastructure facilities as roads, bridges, buildings, dams, sewage and water treatment systems, airports, pipelines, subways, and railways. Students build upon skills gained in the Civil Engineering Technician program to enhance their abilities in design, drafting and supervision of projects, interpretation of data, cost estimating and scheduling, water resources management, feasibility studies, and surveying.

The College’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) laboratories provide students with practical hands-on experience in both design and drafting. Students also receive surveying training utilizing fully automated distance and angle measuring equipment that can store data in an electronic field book which is later interfaced with a computer.

Accreditation – Cambrian’s Civil Engineering Technology program is nationally accredited by the Canadian Technology Accreditation Board (CTAB).

National Accreditation is an evaluation service of applied science and engineering technology programs offered at educational agencies (private and public colleges, educational institutes) in Canada. It is a voluntary process whereby a program is examined and assessed for the purpose of identifying whether it meets the profession’s approved standards and criteria. A program’s accreditation status is normally subject to periodic review and may be withdrawn for cause. (Excerpt from CTAB website.)

Membership Opportunities -
OACETT – Graduates may be eligible to become members of the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).
CTEN – Graduates may be eligible to become members of the Canadian Technical Employment Network (CTEN), which provides access to job opportunities across Canada.
It is the responsibility of the graduate to pursue membership.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates may find employment opportunities with:
– consulting engineering firms
– municipal engineering offices
– construction firms
– manufacturing organizations
– government agencies
– inspection and testing companies
